Crisis, what crisis?

  • NHK, the BBC of Japan, is considering suspending late-night TV programmes in an effort to save energy, reverting to the old days of shutting down at midnight.
  • The mayor of Kyoto has asked the ubiquitous 24-hour convenience stores to close at night to save energy.
  • A neighbour who works at a Hitachi factory was told to take Monday and Tuesday off last week. Was this a kind act of the company in recognition of his sterling work. Er, no, the electric company didn't have enough juice to power the factory, so everyone was sent home.
Should I sell my air conditioner while it still has some value?

does NHK have a programme schedule that ervolves around property shows, like house doctor,to but or not to buy, homes under the hammer, etc etc.

and the govt wonder why we've got a property bubble. They obviously don't watch the state channel.

A bit of the property rubbish, but Japanese telly revolves around the cult of celebs. Celebs appear on game shows, psychic chat shoes, cookery programmes, you name it. There's this utterly crass psychic who has every woman in the country swearing he's the real deal, anyway, he's on telly every Saturday night telling celebs that they used to be Genghis Khan in a previous life and that's why they can't settle down... fingers down the throat time. Ehara he's called. Biggest phoney this side of the Pacific. Ehara is his name.
